Gagea is a large genus of spring flowers in the lily family. The flowers are yellow. It is found primarily in Eurasia with a few species extending into North Africa and North America. As of winter 2014 the World Checklist of Selected Plant Families recognizes over 200 species including those previously assigned to Lloydia.
Water:
Gagea originates from temperate regions and thrives in moderately moist environments. It prefers consistent soil hydration, requiring weekly watering to maintain health. Typically grown outdoors, its growth and dormancy cycles are affected by seasonal rainfall patterns.
Propagation:
Propagation of gagea is primarily via seed sowing and bulb offsets. Success requires well-draining soil, warm spring temperatures, and partial to full sunlight. Techniques include seed stratification and proper offset planting depth. Difficulty is medium due to seed dormancy and transplant sensitivity.
