Galanthus plicatus is a bulbous perennial plant, growing to about 15 cm tall. Its leaves are bluish or greyish green, broader than many other species of Galanthus, up to 2 cm wide. The leaf edges are folded back away from the upper surface of the leaf, both in bud and after they expand. The nodding white flowers appear in spring and have six white tepals.
Water:
Pleated snowdrop thrives in moist, humid conditions typical of woodlands, requiring evenly moist soil. Weekly watering is recommended to maintain hydration. Often grown outdoors, pleated snowdrop fits well in temperate gardens with supportive rainfall, minimizing the need for additional watering.
Fertilize:
The pleated snowdrop thrives in nutrient-rich soil and typically requires no fertilizer. However, applying a water-soluble fertilizer monthly during winter and spring can promote more prolific blooms.
Pruning:
Pleated snowdrop features delicate white flowers and pleated leaves. Prune in early to late spring after flowering by removing spent blooms and damaged foliage to promote growth and prevent disease. Gentle pruning enhances air circulation, maintaining the plant's aesthetic appeal and vigor.
Propagation:
Propagation methods for pleated snowdrop include division, bulb offsets, chipping, and twin scaling. Division is preferred; divide mature bulbs every three years. After blooming, dig and split the root into three, plant 5cm deep and 7cm apart. Apply fertilizer and water to promote growth.
