Hakone grass are a genus of grass with only one member in its genus: Hakonechloa Macra. Its scientific name Hakonechloa stems from its growth around Mount Hakone, a volcano in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It is prized for its vibrant green color that may vary according to the season. It is solid green to gold in spring and summer and coppery in the winter.
Water:
Hakone grass thrives in moist, shaded environments, preferring regular hydration while tolerating short dry spells. Water twice a week to maintain its lush foliage. It flourishes outdoors in temperate climates, benefiting from natural rainfall patterns without the risk of waterlogging.
Propagation:
Propagating hakone grass involves division, ideally done in spring or early fall. It thrives in partial shade and moist, well-draining soil at 68-72°F (20-22°C). For successful division, dig up a clump, separate plants with roots, replant at the same depth, and maintain moisture.
