Water: Large leather-root thrives in environments that reflect its native habitat, necessitating weekly watering to ensure health. While resilient and capable of withstanding brief dry spells, it prefers consistent moisture. This species has adapted to align its growth with seasonal rainfall patterns in its natural outdoor settings.
Fertilize: Large leather-root requires balanced nutrition through quarterly fertilization for optimal growth. Use aged compost or slow-release fertilizers while avoiding over-fertilization. Increase feeding frequency in spring and summer, and reduce in winter. Apply 1-2 tablespoons per plant, ensuring even distribution and thorough watering.
Pruning: Large leather-root features tall stems and clusters of purple flowers. Prune between early and late spring to maintain shape and promote growth. Remove dead or damaged branches for better air circulation. Regular pruning encourages vigorous flowering and ensures robust, aesthetically pleasing growth.
Propagation: Large leather-root can be propagated by taking cuttings from healthy sections. Use a sharp cut and ensure the cuttings have nodes, stripping lower leaves for exposure. Plant in well-draining soil, keep consistently moist, and provide indirect light for optimal rooting conditions.
