Interesting Facts
Holarrhena pubescens was regarded for a long time as an important medicinal plant in tropical Asia and Africa, known to contain more than 40 different alkaloids, so it has a substantial perspective in future pharmacological research for the discovery of novel medication. The option of collecting leaves and seeds instead of roots and bark would be beneficial and more sustainable.
Name Story
Feverpod: The common name Holarrhena pubescens probably comes from the plant's traditional medicinal uses; other common names such as 'dysentery rose bay' reflect that as well. The Latin name of the genus, Holarrhena, comes from Greek 'holos' - 'entire, whole,' and 'arrhen' meaning 'male' - it is a reference to the plant's anthers. The specific epithet Pubescens means 'maturing' or 'becoming hairy.'

Care Guide for Feverpod

Every 2-3 weeks
Water
Full sun

Water: Originating from dry climates, feverpod is drought-tolerant, requiring watering only every 2-3 weeks. It thrives outdoors, benefiting from rain, and aligns its growth with water availability, shedding leaves during dry spells to conserve resources.
Fertilize: Feverpod requires balanced nutrition for optimal growth. Apply a slow-release fertilizer (1/4 to 1/2 strength) early in the growing season, followed by monthly applications, reducing in fall. Over-fertilization risks root damage. Adjust feeding seasonally and incorporate gently to minimize root disturbance.
Pruning: Feverpod thrives with early spring pruning, which should focus on dead or diseased wood to stimulate growth. Clean, angled cuts help prevent water damage and align with the plant's growth cycle, enhancing its vitality and flowering. Regular pruning ensures feverpod remains healthy and visually appealing.
Propagation: Feverpod is a medicinal plant used for treating fevers. It propagates best via stem cuttings in well-draining soil with moderate humidity and good, indirect light. Water sparingly to avoid rot, use rooting hormone, and create a controlled environment for optimal growth.
