Water: Watering needs for iris hybrid vary: Bearded iris hybrid requires minimal water, only when soil is dry, while Siberian iris hybrid needs consistently moist soil. Most iris hybrid species dislike standing water and risk root rot in poorly-drained soils.
Fertilize: Iris hybrid thrives in humus-rich soil. Fertilize early spring, early fall, and pre-bloom with phosphorus-rich compounds (5-10-5 NPK) to enhance flowering. Balanced fertilizers (20-20-20 NPK) are also suitable. Use organic fertilizers for soil improvement, and water immediately after fertilizing to aid nutrient absorption.
Pruning: Cut off the bloom-bearing stalks of iris hybrid after blooming to conserve nutrients. Some varieties might bloom again. In fall, prune old, dry leaves to enhance ventilation and reduce the risk of pests and diseases.
Propagation: To propagate iris hybrid, avoid seeding due to variability in colors and shapes. Instead, divide 2-3 months post-bloom using a sharp knife, ensuring each piece has a 15 cm-long rhizome. Trim old parts and maintain a spacing of 30 cm (15 cm for dwarf varieties).
