Lablab have only one species associated with them: Hyacinth Bean. This species has produced one cultivar, ‘Ruby Moon’. Lablab are fast-growing perennial climbers that are native to tropical parts of Africa. They have been used to stabilize dunes and improve soil, and are food sources for humans and animals.
Water:
Thriving in tropical climates, lablab requires consistent moisture and prefers evenly moist soil, with moderate drought tolerance. Weekly watering is ideal to replicate natural conditions. Optimal flowering occurs with adequate hydration during the active growing season, enhancing its ornamental value as an outdoor plant.
Propagation:
Lablab propagates primarily through seed sowing, requiring warm temperatures (18-30°C), well-draining soil, and full sun. Soak seeds overnight, scarify if needed, and sow 1-2 cm deep. Maintain moist soil and provide sunlight for optimal germination, as seed viability decreases over time.
