Water: Chinese lobelia thrives in high humidity environments, reflecting its tropical origins. It balances water absorption and transpiration, requiring weekly watering for optimal growth. As an herbaceous species, chinese lobelia thrives outdoors, benefiting from adequate rainfall during its growth season.
Fertilize: For chinese lobelia, use balanced nutrition fertilizers monthly during growth and dilute to half-strength to protect roots. Withhold feeding in dormancy and adjust based on seasonal changes. Always water soil prior to application for even distribution, ensuring robust health and blooming.
Pruning: Chinese lobelia features vibrant blooms and a low-growing habit, benefiting from regular pruning. Techniques include removing dead stems and pinching back new shoots in spring. Pruning during its active growth phase improves air circulation, reduces disease risk, and promotes a compact structure.
Propagation: Chinese lobelia is a perennial herb that propagates best from fresh seeds pressed into well-draining, fertile substrate. Maintain consistent moisture and adequate light for germination. Once seedlings develop true leaves and strong roots, they can be transplanted to their final growing locations.
Repotting: Repot chinese lobelia every 2-3 years in early spring before growth. Use a medium-sized, well-draining pot to support its spreading habit. After repotting, maintain consistent moisture without waterlogging and provide partial sun for optimal health.
