Murdania are a genus of perennials and annuals named after Murdan Ali, a herbarium keeper in India whose collection of dewflowers species was used to validly describe the genus for the first time in1840. These plants prefer tropical and subtropical regions. Sadly, over 50% of the species in this genus are rare, with over 10% considered vulnerable.

Dewflowers thrives in moist, humid environments similar to its tropical origins. It is moderately drought-tolerant but prefers balanced soil moisture, requiring weekly watering. As an outdoor plant, dewflowers benefits from natural rainfall during the growing season, reducing the need for additional watering.
