Foothill beargrass belongs to the same family as asparagus, but this species is not edible by humans. Goats and sheep are rather fond of this grass, though over-consumption can be toxic for them. Native American tribes were known to use this grass for thatching roofs and weaving baskets and mats. Foothill beargrass can very rarely be found in home gardens, as it appeals to a very niche type of aesthetic.

Pruning:
Foothill beargrass is an evergreen perennial with grass-like leaves. Prune dead or damaged foliage in early spring to encourage growth and prevent disease. Focus on removing brown tips instead of heavy pruning, which can stress the plant. This practice enhances its appearance and health.
