Water:
Hooker's orchid prefers adequate moisture but can withstand some drought. Water weekly in summer and every 10 days in winter. Maintain humidity through misting in dry conditions. Use water with a neutral pH, allowing tap or rainwater to sit to neutralize it before use.
Fertilize:
Hooker's orchid requires minimal fertilization. Use a nitrogen-rich fertilizer (N-P-K = 30-10-10) every 10 days post-sprouting in spring, then switch to a balanced fertilizer (N-P-K = 20-20-20) in summer. A phosphorus-rich fertilizer can enhance blooming in fall.
Pruning:
This orchid species features heart-shaped leaves and small greenish-yellow flowers. Pruning hooker's orchid occurs in early to late spring, targeting dead or damaged foliage to foster healthy growth. Delay cutting flower spikes until they've fully bloomed to optimize energy use, promoting vigorous blooming in future seasons.
Propagation:
Propagate hooker's orchid through division or cuttings. For division, post-bloom, carefully separate rooted clusters. For cuttings, prior to flowering, use 2-node stem pieces, keep substrate moist, and expect rooting in 2-3 months. Alternatively, lay a stem on moist substrate and transplant rooted sections.
