Water:
Water sesquehana sandcherry once before budding in mid-spring, then monthly until fall. Ensure thorough watering until draining stops. After watering, loosen soil and remove weeds. Discontinue watering in autumn and winter to prevent frost damage.
Fertilize:
To ensure healthy growth and fruit production, sesquehana sandcherry requires fertilization twice yearly: before blooming and during fruit enlargement. Use organic fertilizer, applying it in a circular trench 38 cm deep (15 inches) and 28 cm wide (11 inches) around the crown, then backfill.
Pruning:
Sesquehana sandcherry requires regular pruning to manage branch overcrowding, ensuring adequate air circulation and light exposure, while preventing pests and diseases. Additionally, selective removal of some flowers and fruit enhances nutrient allocation, resulting in fewer but higher quality and tastier fruits.
Propagation:
Sesquehana sandcherry is propagated by grafting. Select strong, healthy branches with 3-4 buds in mid-spring or use buds in summer. Make a T-cut in the stock, insert the branch/bud, and bind with plastic. Remove after 10-20 days when healed.
