Water: The white willow 'Britzensis' requires consistent watering, especially in summer for seedlings. Mature plants can tolerate drought and excess moisture. Daily watering around 5 PM is advisable in dry conditions, whereas no watering is needed during rainy spells. Mature roots resist water-logging, minimizing drainage needs.
Fertilize: In the early growth stage of white willow 'Britzensis', apply a light nitrogen fertilizer 4-5 times. Mature plants require less fertilizer, but potassium sources like calcium phosphate can be used. Healthy leaves indicate fertile soil, and nearby lawn fertilization may reduce the need for additional fertilization.
Pruning: White willow 'Britzensis' features striking orange-red stems and benefits from annual pruning in early spring. This involves removing dead or diseased branches and thinning overcrowded stems to improve air circulation and light. Regular pruning promotes robust growth and enhances the plant's ornamental appeal.
Propagation: Transplant seedlings in early spring after the soil thaws. Provide water and minor fertilizer. Cuttings should be taken then as well from healthy plants. Cut 15-17 cm branches, soak them, and insert into moist soil. Remove lower buds post-budding and manage weeds for optimal growth.
