Weeping pussywillow is a dwarf hybrid that grows to less than 3 meters in contrast to the 10 meters the parent achieves. It has a ‘weeping’ or ‘pendulous’ growth form, with attractively dangling branches that are described by its name. Its yellow flowers are followed by soft furry catkins that offer plenty of visual and tactile appeal. Its attractive shape makes it an excellent specimen shrub or tree.

Water:
Weeping pussywillow requires consistent watering, especially in summer, with daily watering for seedlings. Mature plants tolerate drought and water-logging but thrive with daily watering in dry conditions. Watering should be adjusted based on soil moisture, especially after rainy days.
Fertilize:
In the early stages of weeping pussywillow growth, light fertilizer is recommended 4-5 times, focusing on nitrogen sources. Mature weeping pussywillow typically requires less fertilizer; however, potassium sources can be applied as needed. Healthy leaves indicate fertile soil, and nearby lawn fertilization may eliminate the need for additional fertilization.
Pruning:
Weeping pussywillow thrives with proper care, including timely pruning to enhance light and air flow, reducing pests. During pruning, retain a main branch for seedlings, and shape head-removed plants by leaving main branches in desired directions. Use smooth cuts coated with tung oil for healing, ideally in early spring or late fall.
Propagation:
Seedlings of weeping pussywillow can be transplanted in early spring after soil thaws. Water adequately and apply suitable base fertilizer sparingly. For cuttings, select healthy stock plants and cut branches 15-17 cm long, ensuring moist soil. Remove lower buds post-budding, focusing on weed control.
