Water: Drought-resistant varieties of cinnabar Sage need minimal watering, primarily during droughts. In contrast, tender varieties and young plants require regular watering, approximately 2.5 cm (1 in) every 7-10 days, to prevent complete soil dryness.
Fertilize: In rich or clay soils, cinnabar Sage needs no fertilizer. It benefits from compost in poor soil and can have slow-release fertilizer added when planting. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it may promote rapid growth, causing the plant to become unstable.
Pruning: Cinnabar Sage is a vibrant perennial with striking red flowers. Prune in early spring, cutting back one-third of mature stems to prevent legginess and boost blooms. Regularly trim spent flowers to extend the season and enhance air circulation, promoting plant health and vigor.
