Water:
Originating from tropical environments, tropical sage thrives in high humidity and consistent moisture. Watering once weekly is essential for lush growth. When grown outdoors, consider its flowering cycle; adequate hydration during blooming enhances flower production and overall vitality.
Fertilize:
In rich or clay soils, tropical sage needs no fertilizer. As a light feeder, tropical sage benefits from compost in poor soil. When planting, incorporate a slow-release fertilizer, but avoid over-fertilization to prevent rapid, weak growth.
Pruning:
Tropical sage is a low-growing, herbaceous perennial with aromatic leaves and vibrant flowers. Pruning should occur in early to late spring to promote bushier growth and blooming, while also enhancing airflow and preventing disease.
Propagation:
Tropical sage propagates well from healthy, non-flowering stem cuttings. Use well-draining soil, maintain consistent moisture, and provide warm, indirect light. Rooting hormone enhances success but isn't necessary. Once rooted, transfer plantlets to individual pots until ready for final planting.
