The only species within its genus, upright wild ginger(Saruma henryi) is not true ginger (Zingiber officinale). It is sometimes used as a garden ornamental for its heart-shaped leaves. Though, unlike real wild gingers (genus Asarum), it can't be used for ground covering. The plant was named after Augustine Henry, who discovered and described the plant in 1890.

Water:
Upright wild ginger thrives in humid environments and prefers consistent moisture with a weekly watering regimen. As an herbaceous perennial, it goes dormant in colder months, requiring reduced watering to avoid waterlogging.
Fertilize:

Fertilize every 4-6 weeks during the growing season, using half-strength for young plants. Reduce fertilization in autumn to prepare for dormancy, promoting overall health and vitality of upright wild ginger.
Pruning:
Upright wild ginger thrives with careful pruning in early to late spring, promoting healthy growth and enhanced flowering. Remove dead stems and trim selectively for shape and air circulation. Always utilize sharp, clean tools to prevent disease and ensure optimal care for your upright wild ginger.
Propagation:

Propagation through division is ideal, ensuring sections have roots and shoots for quicker establishment. This method preserves genetic consistency and is effective for expanding collections or sharing with other gardeners.
