Water: Originating from arid regions, mexican stonecrop thrives with minimal moisture and shows strong drought tolerance. Preferring well-draining soil, it sustains on water stored in its fleshy leaves. For optimal health, mexican stonecrop requires weekly watering and retains lush foliage year-round as an evergreen plant.
Fertilize: Most succulent plants, including mexican stonecrop, thrive in nutrient-poor environments and typically do not require fertilization. A slow-release fertilizer can be applied in early summer, but avoid fertilizing during dormancy to prevent nutrient damage.
Pruning: To maintain an appealing shape, mexican stonecrop needs pruning, especially redundant or dense branches during spring and fall. For propagation, cut 5-6 leaves from a stout stem, treat the wound with sulfur powder, and plant it in slightly moist soil after healing.
Propagation: Succulents can be propagated easily using leaf cuttings, typically in spring or fall. Cut a healthy leaf, place it on slightly humid soil at a temperature of 25℃ (77℉) and in bright, scattered light. A bud will appear in one to two weeks.
Repotting: Mexican stonecrop requires excellent drainage in pots to thrive effectively.
