Lauan is a genus of about 196 species of mainly rainforest trees in the family Dipterocarpaceae. Lauan are native to Southeast Asia. In west Malesia and the Philippines, this genus dominates the skyline of the tropical forests. The majority of lauan are general flowering species.

Originating from tropical regions, lauan prefers high humidity and evenly moist soil. It is moderately drought-tolerant but thrives with consistent moisture. Watering every 2-3 weeks is ideal. Typically grown outdoors, lauan benefits from mulching to retain moisture and replicate its rainforest habitat.
