Water:
Hairy ironwort is adapted to arid regions, demonstrating excellent drought tolerance with watering needs of every 2-3 weeks. When cultivated outdoors, it requires well-draining soil to optimize water management and maintain health.
Fertilize:
For optimal health, hairy ironwort requires balanced nutrition, particularly high nitrogen during early growth. Fertilize monthly with diluted liquid feed to prevent root burn. Avoid over-fertilization, especially in winter, and ensure proper watering before fertilizing for effective nutrient uptake.
Pruning:
Prune hairy ironwort in early to late winter by trimming one-third of its growth to promote dense foliage and prevent legginess. This dormant-phase pruning reduces stress, enhances air circulation, and removes dead or diseased parts, improving growth and flowering potential for a more attractive garden addition.
Propagation:
Hairy ironwort is a herbaceous perennial that prefers well-drained soil. Propagation can be achieved by taking semi-hardwood cuttings, applying rooting hormone, and planting in a moist, soil-based mix. Consistent moisture is vital for root development, leading to a healthy hairy ironwort specimen.
