Chirinole
Chirinole is a visually striking succulent known for its creeping growth habit, characterized by unique horizontally trailing stems. These gray-green stems, which can stretch up to two meters, are ribbed with sharp spines that aid in defense and minimize water loss. Perfectly adapted to its arid environment, chirinole offsets intense sunlight and conserves water, bearing bright flowers that contrast its rugged appearance.

Water: Chirinole is drought-tolerant and requires infrequent watering. Water thoroughly when the soil is dry, with 1-2 weekly sessions in growing seasons and weekly in winter. Use rainwater or distilled water to avoid soil compaction, and prevent water splashing on the stem to avoid rot.
Fertilize: Fertilize chirinole monthly with liquid fertilizer during the growing seasons (spring, summer, fall); avoid winter fertilization. Incorporate slow-release fertilizer when repotting. Use low-concentration nitrogen for seedlings and phosphate-potassium before/after blooming. If growth is slow or leaves are yellowing, reduce fertilization immediately.
Pruning: Chirinole is a creeping cactus with long stems. Prune in early spring to remove dead or damaged parts, using sterilized shears. This promotes healthy, denser growth, maintains size, and prevents pests by optimizing light and air circulation.
Propagation: Propagation methods for chirinole include division and grafting. For division, cut lateral branches and plant in soil to encourage small shoots. Grafting involves selecting a rootstock, cutting its tip, placing chirinole at the center, and fixing it; after 1-2 weeks, the parts unite.
