Stomatium are succulent plants that are all native to Southern Africa. Their thick fleshy leaves have plenty of ornamental appeal with their bumpy leaves with toothed edges. The leaves grow in pairs that can resemble open mouths. Their yellow or white flowers are fragrant and open during the day and close at night.
Water:
Stomatium is adapted to arid conditions, exhibiting remarkable drought tolerance and efficiently utilizing limited water. Watering should occur every 2-3 weeks, allowing the soil to dry completely. Its resilience makes stomatium ideal for xeriscapes, storing water in leaves for dry spells.
Propagation:
To propagate stomatium, use seeds, offsets, or leaf cuttings in well-draining soil. Key conditions include adequate light, warmth, and dryness. Allow cuttings to callous before planting in cactus mix. Water sparingly until growth appears, then increase frequency. Re-potting may be necessary as plants grow.
