Care Guide for Lilacs 'Smsjbp7'
Twice per week
Water
Full sun
Sunlight
0 - 32 ℃
Ideal Temperature
Water:
Lilacs 'Smsjbp7' thrives in well-drained soil and needs sufficient water to nourish its roots. Test drainage by filling a 12 in deep hole (30 cm) with water; if not drained in an hour, find another site. Water if less than 1 in (2.5 cm) of rain occurs weekly, ensuring soil dries between waterings.
Fertilize:
After transplanting, minimal to no fertilizer is required. Excessive nitrogen can hinder flower growth. Apply a balanced phosphorus-potassium fertilizer and a small amount of nitrogen after blooming. Fertilize annually in early spring, use compost at the base, and cover with 5-10 cm to retain moisture and prevent weeds.
Pruning:
Lilacs 'Smsjbp7' thrives with early spring pruning to remove dead wood and thin overcrowded branches, promoting air circulation. Cutting back to healthy buds encourages new growth. Pruning post-flowering enhances future blooms, while regular trimming maintains shape, vigor, and flowering potential.
Propagation:
Lilacs 'Smsjbp7' propagates easily via ramets before spring or after autumn leaf fall. Seedlings should be transplanted with roots and watered post-transplant. Cuttage in summer involves cutting strong branches to 5-6 in, shading, and keeping moist; roots develop in about 50 days.
