Water:
The english yew 'Fastigiata' requires careful watering to avoid waterlogging. Initially, water every 7-10 days, adjusting for climate. After a few years, water during dry spells. Applying bark mulch in summer helps retain soil moisture by reducing evaporation.
Fertilize:
English yew 'Fastigiata' requires minimal fertilization, only after a year from planting. Annually apply conifer or fir fertilizer in spring post-last frost, ensuring thorough watering afterward. Limy water can also boost growth, aiding nutrient absorption through the roots.
Pruning:
English yew 'Fastigiata' is a columnar conifer best pruned between early and late winter while dormant. Remove dead or diseased branches for health and shape. Light trimming encourages density; avoid heavy pruning to promote growth. Regular maintenance enhances air circulation and vigor, while post-storm pruning mitigates damage.
Propagation:
Propagate english yew 'Fastigiata' through cuttings around 9 inches long and 1/4-inch in diameter, taken in late fall. Prepare by defoliating the base and applying rooting hormone. Use well-draining soil and keep cuttings at 24℃ (75°F) in indirect light, misting regularly; rooting takes 2-3 months.
