Chinese meadow rue
Also known as: Delavay's meadow-rue, Lavender shower
Chinese meadow rue (Thalictrum delavayi) is a lovely ornamental shrub that has a number of garden uses. It has thin foliage that is see-through, so it can be placed in front of mass-plantings of shorter plants. Alternatively, its height allows it to be situated at the back of borders. Animal owners should be aware, however, that this plant is toxic to dogs.

Water: Chinese meadow rue prefers consistently moist soil, aligning with its mountainous origin. It requires watering every 1-2 weeks and shows moderate drought tolerance. Mulching is beneficial for retaining moisture during the growing season, supporting its hydration needs.
Fertilize: Fertilize chinese meadow rue with balanced nutrients in spring and high phosphorus during blooming for enhanced growth and flowers. Apply monthly, avoiding excess nitrogen to prevent leggy growth. Adjust feeding seasonally, using diluted solutions to protect roots, ensuring robust health through proper dosage and regularity.
Pruning: Chinese meadow rue features airy foliage and delicate flowers, benefiting from annual pruning in early to late spring. Cut back dead stems to promote new growth, enhance air circulation, and prevent overcrowding, fostering vigorous blooming. Use sharp, clean tools for optimal results.
Propagation: Chinese meadow rue is a hardy perennial known for its delicate foliage and fluffy flowers. Propagate by dividing the root clump, ensuring minimal disturbance. Replant divisions in well-prepared, moisture-retentive soil, keeping consistent moisture, but avoid waterlogging for successful establishment.
