Trichostema are aromatic herbs or subshrubs native to North America. Most have whorls of small blue flowers often called 'bluecurls.' Some cultivated species are a great choice for xeriscaping—desert or water-saving gardens—adding a dramatic effect with their blooms. Trichostema can make interesting cut flowers as well.
Water:
Trichostema thrives in moderate moisture conditions, requiring weekly watering for optimal health. It prefers consistent soil moisture without waterlogging and efficiently uses available water during the growing season to maintain lush foliage, particularly when cultivated outdoors.
Propagation:
Propagation of trichostema can be achieved through seed sowing or cuttings, requiring ample light, warmth, and well-draining soil. Seed germination may need stratification. Cuttings should be 4-6 inches long, treated with rooting hormone, and kept in high humidity with indirect light until rooted.
