Vervain
Vervain is distinguished by its vibrant clusters of small, tubular flowers, typically in shades of vivid purple to mauve. These blossoms are set atop slender, erect stems surrounded by toothed foliage which may exhibit a slightly wrinkled texture. Typically found in open, sunny landscapes, vervain thrives in well-drained soils, where it can attract a host of pollinators, playing a crucial role in local ecosystems.

Water: Vervain requires consistent watering during spring and summer, with reduced needs in fall and winter. Daily checks in hot weather are essential; water at the base in the morning to avoid damaging petals if the soil is dry or the plant wilts.
Fertilize: The vervain requires frequent feeding for optimal health and vibrancy. Use organic water-soluble fertilizer directly on the soil to avoid leaf burn. Feed vervain twice a month in spring and summer, with some opting for monthly feeding in fall and winter.
Pruning: Vervain can grow 10cm-140cm tall and spread up to 2m. Blooms from early summer to mid-winter; monthly pruning in summer is essential, with additional pruning twice each season as needed. Trim 1-2 inches of spent flowers and foliage, avoiding more than a third removal to ensure future blooming.
Propagation: Propagate vervain by spring cuttings or seeds. Plant seeds 5 cm (2 inches) deep indoors ten weeks before winter ends. Expect sprouting in two weeks. Once seedlings reach 5-7.5 cm (2-3 inches), gradually harden them outdoors over a week before transplanting.
