Water: Moist soil enhances the vigor of viburnum punctatum, while insufficient water reduces its ornamental value and causes abnormal flowering. Continuous irrigation is crucial during transplanting for 3-4 weeks. In severe heat, 7-8 mm of water weekly maintains moisture; however, excessive moisture can lead to root rot.
Fertilize: Organic fertilizer enhances soil structure, organic matter, and fertility, crucial for plant growth. Apply basal fertilizer during transplanting, and every 2 weeks in growth stages. Fertilize before dormancy and avoid soft cuttings until sprouting. Use nitrogen-rich fertilizer for transplants, switching to high phosphorus later.
Pruning: Light pruning of viburnum punctatum is permissible year-round to remove dead or damaged parts. For shaping, prune in late winter or early spring, cutting no more than 1/3 for dense branches. Avoid pruning during frost or extreme cold, and initiate after flowering but before fruiting.
Propagation: Growing viburnum punctatum from seeds is not ideal, taking 12-18 months. Instead, use soft cuttings with 2 nodes each. Prepare soil by mixing 1/3 decomposed organic matter with 2/3 existing soil. After planting, gently press the soil and water immediately for optimal results.
