Water:
Once a sweet mountain grape sprouts, fertilize and irrigate thoroughly. Water less once soil is moist below 20cm, especially to prevent spindling. Water every 10-12 days as fruit expands, reducing water as grapes color. For potted sweet mountain grape, keep soil moist but slightly dry on the surface.
Fertilize:
Sweet mountain grape requires careful nutrient management before planting, using specific fertilizers for deficiencies. In the second year, apply a small amount of compound fertilizer. Organic fertilizers are recommended in winter. Potassium, zinc, and boron are crucial for growth and should be applied at appropriate intervals.
Pruning:
Sweet mountain grape thrives with regular early spring pruning to remove dead wood and thin crowded branches for better air circulation. Training young vines on a trellis enhances structure. Sterilizing tools prevents disease, supporting fruit production and overall plant health for a bountiful harvest.
Propagation:
Propagate sweet mountain grape using hardwood cuttings at winter's end. Use pencil-thick, 50 cm long cuttings with a 3 cm oblique cut from the top bud. Store in wet soil in a bag in refrigeration. Plant cuttings vertically, exposing the top bud, and keep the soil moist for rooting before spring transplanting.
