Interesting Facts
Korean weigela produces enormous numbers of small flowers. They're popular targets for hummingbirds and bees during their summer blooming season. Butterflies and moths, however, tend not to visit as much in their flying form. Instead, they eat korean weigela in their larval stage.
Name Story
Korean weigela: The specific epithet, "coraeensis," is a Latinization of the name, "Korea." In spite of its affiliation with the Korean Penninsula, korean weigela is technically only naturalized there; its true native range is the large island of Japan, Honshu. Korean weigela was likely imported to mainland Asia thousands of years ago.

Water:
Korean weigela prefers moderate humidity and well-drained soil, showcasing drought tolerance once established. Water every three weeks, allowing soil to dry slightly in between. As an outdoor plant, adequate rainfall during the growing season minimizes the need for additional watering.
Fertilize:
For healthy blooms, fertilize korean weigela yearly in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer, adhering to label instructions. Monitor for over-fertilization signs and adjust as needed. Water korean weigela post-application to prevent root burn, and cease feeding in autumn to avoid frost damage.
Pruning:
Korean weigela features vibrant flowers and bushy growth. Prune in late spring after flowering to shape and promote dense growth. Rejuvenate older plants by removing a third of old stems. Regular pruning enhances airflow and reduces disease, ensuring a healthy plant. Use clean, sharp tools.
Propagation:
Korean weigela is an easy-to-grow flowering shrub. Successful propagation is achieved through semi-ripe cuttings taken in summer, using a well-draining soil mix. Employ rooting hormone, provide indirect sunlight, and maintain consistent moisture to promote root development while avoiding soggy conditions.
