Yavia are a genus of just one species – Yavia cryptocarpia. These succulents are endemic to South America and derive their Latin name Yavia from the Yavi department in Argentina’s Jujuy Province. The small and slow-growing yavia have become popular collector’s plants for their pink flowers and spherical shape.
Water:
Yavia thrives in arid regions, effectively retaining moisture and enduring long dry periods. It requires minimal watering, about once every three weeks, and outdoor growth should align with the rainy season for optimal development.
Propagation:
The primary propagation method for yavia is seed sowing, requiring a temperature of 15-20°C (59-68°F) and well-draining, gritty soil. Yavia needs bright indirect light and specific environmental conditions. Steps include moistening the substrate, scattering seeds, and maintaining moisture until germination, which can take several weeks.
