Is the spotted water hemlock poisonous?
Spotted water hemlock is extremely poisonous to most mammals, including humans. The main toxic compounds are cicutoxin and cicutol, which act as extremely potent neurotoxins that can produce negative effects in very small dosages. The minimum dosage that causes poisoning in humans is unknown, but there are reports of children getting poisoned just by playing with spotted water hemlock. Symptoms of poisoning include rapid heart rate, rapid breathing, body tremors, violent convulsions, and coma.
