How to Grow and Care for Common elaeocarpus

Common elaeocarpus is an evergreen shrub or tree reaching 20 to 35 feet (6-11 meters) in height with a canopy spread equal to its height. It may continue to grow larger over time. It exhibits a dense and compact growth habit with nicely structured branches. The leaves are elliptical, lustrous, and dark green, with a bronzy tint when new. Older leaves provide seasonal interest as they turn orange before falling. Small, cream-colored, downward-hanging flowers with fringed petals bloom subtly within the canopy. These flowers give way to small oblong, bluish-purple fruits. The plant has a preference for full sun to partial shade and well-drained soils, requiring regular watering to establish.
