Hydrangea arguta (Hydrangea arguta) is the only hydrangea native to Hawaii, where it is known as kanawao. A medium-sized shrub, hydrangea arguta produces clusters of flowers in a wide array of colors from blue to yellow to pink. Both male and female plants flower, but only the female plants go on to produce clusters of red to maroon fruits.
