Minimum and maximum sunlight tolerance
Western redbud is relatively tolerant and can adapt to varying light conditions. While it flourishes in full sun, it can also tolerate partial sun which includes 3-6 hours of sunlight per day. However, if the plant receives too little sunlight, it may result in stunted growth, fewer blooms, and a leggy appearance. Conversely, too much intense afternoon sun, particularly in very hot climates, can lead to leaf scorch. Finding the right balance is key to ensuring your Western redbud thrives.
