From Ground: Water the roman wormwood plant thoroughly a day before you plan to transplant. This will help ease the root ball out of the soil. With a trowel or garden spade, dig carefully around the plant, making sure to go wide enough to include the entire root system without cutting into it. Gently work your tool under the root ball and lever it up evenly from different angles to avoid breaking the roots.
From Pot: Water the roman wormwood gently to help the roots come out more easily. Turn the pot on its side and gently pull the plant by the base of the stems, not the leaves. If the plant doesn't come out, tap the sides and bottom of the pot to loosen the soil and carefully slide the root ball out.
From Seedling Tray: Use a small tool like a dibber or a pencil to loosen the soil around each seedling. Gently hold the seedling by the leaves (not the delicate stem), and lift it out of the tray. Be mindful not to disturb the root ball and ensure you have enough roots to transplant.
