From Ground: First, water the large-lipped encyclia plant enough to dampen the soil. Then, use a shovel or spade to dig a wide trench around the plant, ensuring you don't damage the root ball. Once dug out, carefully work the spade under the root ball and cautiously lift the plant out from its original location. As you do this, take care to keep the plant as steady as possible to avoid damaging any tender shoots or flowers.
From Pot: If the large-lipped encyclia plant is in a pot, water it lightly to loosen the roots from the inner edges of the pot. Holding the plant gently at the base, you can then carefully tip the pot to the side and slide the plant out, making sure not to damage the root ball.
From Seedling Tray: If the large-lipped encyclia plant is in a seedling tray, put on your gardening gloves and gently grasp the base of the large-lipped encyclia plant, giving the bottom of the tray a soft squeeze. The plant should come out easily along with its root ball. In case any resistance is faced, use a small tool like a spoon to help remove the plant without damaging it.
