From Ground: Firstly, water your japanese gentian plant to dampen the soil. This will make removal easier and less harmful to the plant. Then, dig around the plant with a trowel, ensuring you dig wider than the plant's root system. Carefully work the trowel under the root ball to lift the plant from its original location. Once removed, immediately place the plant in a bucket filled with water to keep the roots moist.
From Pot: If your japanese gentian is coming from a pot, watering the plant prior to removal will also be beneficial. Turn the pot sideways, hold the plant gently by the stems or leaves, and tap the bottom of the pot to loosen the plant. Once the root ball slides out, handle it carefully to avoid damage.
From Seedling Tray: If you are transplanting from a seed tray, water the seedlings first to make them easier to remove. Gently push the seedling from underneath, while holding the leaves to lift it out. Be careful not to damage the tender roots in the process.
