From Ground: First, water the rigid flax to ensure the soil is damp. Use a spade or shovel to carefully dig around the plant, creating a wide perimeter to avoid damaging the roots. Gently work the tool beneath the root ball and lift the rigid flax from the ground.
From Pot: Water the rigid flax and allow it to soak in. Grasp the base of the plant and gently tip the pot sideways, tapping the bottom and sides to loosen the root ball. Carefully slide the rigid flax out while supporting the soil and root mass.
From Seedling Tray: Water the seedlings to dampen the soil, making it easier to remove them. Use a trowel or a small hand tool to gently pry the individual rigid flax plants from their cells, supporting the root ball as you lift them free.
