From Ground: Begin by watering the soil around the sulphur cinquefoil to make it easier to dig up. Then use a wide, sharp spade to dig a trench around the plant, taking care not to damage the root system. Lift the root ball carefully with the spade, trying to keep as much soil with it as possible.
From Pot: Water the pot well before you intend to transplant. Turn the potted sulphur cinquefoil upside down, tap the rim of the pot on a hard surface to loosen the plant and gently ease it out. Be careful to handle by the root ball and not by the stem or leaves.
From Seedling Tray: Fill each cell of the seedling tray with water, then let it drain. Gently hold the sulphur cinquefoil plant at the base of its stem, ease it out of the cell by pushing up from the bottom. Only handle the seedling by its leaves, not by its stem.
