From Ground: First, water the sage mint plant thoroughly to dampen the soil. Then, dig a circle around the plant with a spade or shovel, making sure to go wider than the width of the plant's foliage to include all of the root system. Pry under the root mass gently and lift the sage mint out of the ground.
From Pot: Start by watering the sage mint to ease removal. Turn the pot sideways, hold the plant by the base, and tap the bottom of the pot to loosen it. Gently pull the sage mint out while supporting the soil and root ball.
From Seedling Tray: Water the seedlings well before transplanting. Use a trowel or your fingers to gently pry out individual sage mint seedlings, being careful to keep as much soil around the roots as possible.
