Overcrowding and Its Effect on Blue iris
Overcrowding can severely affect the blooming of Blue iris. When plants are too close together, they compete for nutrients, sunlight, and water, which can limit their ability to bloom. To combat this, divide your Blue iris clumps every three to four years. This involves carefully digging up the plants, separating the rhizomes, and replanting them at least 12-24 inches apart. Dividing helps rejuvenate the plants, providing more space for root development and improving overall plant health and blooming capacity.
