Is Blue iris toxic to cat?
All parts of the blue iris (Iris spuria) are severely toxic to cats, so use caution with those growing in the garden or found in a bouquet. The most dangerous part of the plant is the bulbs, and if your cat digs around and plays with them, call your vet for advice and treatment to avoid permanent organ damage. Typical symptoms which should prompt a call to the vet include vomiting, diarrhea, red or irritated skin, or ulcers on the mouth.
Is Blue iris toxic to dog?
Blue iris is moderately toxic to dogs. These plants contain several toxic substances which can all cause gastrointestinal distress. All parts of the plant contain some of these substances, though their concentrations are highest in the plant's roots. Blue iris ingestion can lead to excessive drooling, diarrhea, vomiting, and lethargy. More severe symptoms, including coma and death, are possible if huge quantities of plant material are eaten - thankfully, though, such cases are very rare.
