Italian buckthorn, also known as Alaternus, Evergreen buckthorn
Italian buckthorn is an upright evergreen shrub with dense, dark green glossy leaves. It blossoms in spring, producing greenish-yellow flowers followed by fruit that matures from red to dark purple. The plant can reach heights of 12 to 15 feet (3.7 to 4.6 meters) and about half that in width. It boasts a robust growth rate of 2 to 3 feet (60 to 90 cm) per year in its initial years and can be pruned to maintain desired dimensions. The foliage maintains its vibrance in full sun to part shade and exhibits notable drought tolerance.
