Is Buckeye toxic to cat?
The buckeye contains saponins that are severely poisonous to cats; ingestion constitutes a veterinary emergency. All parts are harmful, including buds, nuts, seedlings, bark, and even honey made from the plant. Symptoms of poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, incoordination, dilated pupils, coma, seizures, and convulsions.
Is Buckeye toxic to dog?
Every part of the buckeye (Aesculus) plant is moderately to severely poisonous to dogs if consumed or even touched, and could be fatal. The highest concentration of toxins is in the bark, seeds, and new leaves/stems. Symptoms can range from odd behavior to muscle weakness/tremors, and all the way to death. Keep canines away from buckeye trees, and if it is suspected they have consumed parts of the plant, a trip to the vet may be necessary!
