Is Lemon grass toxic to cat?
Although some cats love to nibble on lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus), which may create effects similar to catnip, all parts of the plant contain a compound that is moderately toxic to them because their digestive systems cannot break down. Concentrated essential oil products are even more toxic. A cat ingesting this plant may experience stomach upset, vomiting, swollen abdomen, fever, and potentially intestinal blockage symptoms.
Is Lemon grass toxic to dog?
Lemon grass is mildly toxic to dogs, usually only being dangerous if eaten in large quantities. The grassy blades contain irritating compounds; thankfully, reactions are usually limited to an upset stomach. Like other grasses, though, lemon grass can also cause a physical blockage in the intestines if too much of it is eaten. Such blockages are serious and may cause abdominal pain, a loss of appetite, difficulty with defecation, and fever, among other symptoms.
