Lily of the incas (Alstroemeria) are a large and diverse group of flowering plants. These plants are so-named because many grow natively in the ancestral home of the Incas, in the high country of the South American Andes. Sporting large and beautiful flowers, many lily of the incas species have been cultivated for ornamental use. Other species, however, have become pesky invasives in areas where they've been introduced – the Peruvian Lily (A. pelegrina), for instance, is considered a problem species in Australia.
