Marijuana (Cannabis sativa) has a very long history of cultivation for various purposes. Marijuana can be used for manufacturing industrial fiber, hemp oil, and food (seeds) in medicine and pharmacy as a recreational drug, and as an entheogen among other applications. Each plant is either male or female, with only the females producing useful amounts of oil.

Economic Value
Stem bark can be used for knitting linens or ropes, spinning, weaving fishing nets and papermaking; seed oil can be used for paint, coating, etc.
Garden Use
Marijuana is often grown for multiple purposes. Its popularity in being grown only continues to increase, though it is not typically considered a valued garden plant. Marijuana plants aren't the most attractive for ornamental gardens, but they do work in more informal gardens or cottage settings. Chamomile, basil, and other plants with strong aromas make excellent companion plants.
Name Story
Marijuana: Marijuana is actually originated from Mexican Spanish. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word may have evolved from mallihuan, meaning "prisoner". Many legal references prefer the term "cannabis" which is practiced strictly in the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. However, many laws and regulations often use the term, "marijuana", such as the Controlled Substances Act in the United States.

Toxicity

Smoking or ingestion of marijuana can lead to intoxication, paranoia, and severe toxicity in children requiring hospitalization. In cats, THC in marijuana causes glassy eyes, difficulty walking, and seizures. In dogs, it leads to wobbly movement, vomiting, and possibly coma. Veterinary assistance is crucial for pets in severe cases.
