Needle juniper
Also known as: Stiff-leaved juniper
The weeping habit and distinct foliage of needle juniper make it a popular ornamental in gardens. This conifer is often found on the grounds of temples in Japan, which gives rise to its common name of Temple Juniper. Needle juniper is fairly tolerant to pollution and, interestingly, often cultivated as a bonsai subject.

Water: Needle juniper is drought-resistant, thriving in dry habitats with infrequent watering needs of every two weeks. As an evergreen with needle-like foliage, it conserves water effectively, making it ideal for regions with sporadic rainfall.
Fertilize: Fertilize needle juniper with balanced nutrition fertilizers in early spring, every 2-3 months during growth, using controlled-release formulas. In colder months, reduce fertilization. Evenly distribute granules away from the trunk and water thoroughly, while monitoring soil conditions to tailor fertilization for optimal health.
Pruning: Needle juniper features needle-like foliage and resilience. Prune by removing dead branches and thinning dense areas for better air circulation. Ideal pruning occurs from early to late winter, promoting healthier growth and an aesthetically pleasing shape.
Propagation: Needle juniper is a conifer with adaptable growth habits. For propagation, use fresh seeds and stratify them to simulate winter. Sow in well-drained soil, maintain consistent moisture, and shelter young plants from extreme conditions until ready for transplanting, ensuring optimal growth.
Repotting: Repot needle juniper every 2-3 years in early spring using a large, well-drained pot. After repotting, position it in a sunny spot and water moderately to support its growth and conical shape, ensuring needle juniper thrives post-transplant.
