The moniker of the genus, Larrea, honors a patron of science, Bishop Juan Antonio Hernandez Perez de Larrea. There are less than 10 species of larrea but nearly all can be characterized as aromatic, woody, evergreen shrubs. You will find them in dry areas of South and North America. The leaves often have a resinous yellowish appearance.
Water:
Larrea is a drought-tolerant plant from arid regions, thriving on minimal moisture and requiring watering every 1-2 weeks. Adapted to intense sun and sporadic rainfall, it is predominantly an outdoor plant capable of withstanding extreme temperature fluctuations.
Propagation:
Propagation of larrea occurs via seed sowing or cuttings, requiring quality seeds and healthy stems. Full sunlight, moderate temperatures, and well-draining soil are vital. Cuttings must be taken correctly and require consistent moisture. Rooting hormone enhances success, with several weeks needed for rooting before transplanting.
